Lis' extensive experience as a scientist and educator allows her to understand, select, and implement evidence-based interventions that will help you to develop your child's abilities and fulfill their potential.
Lis' specialist interests include speech and language development in the infant and preschool years, childhood stuttering, and the fostering of literacy skills in school-aged children. With over a decade of experience as a primary school teacher prior to joining our team, Lis is able to develop great relationships with children and their families and is passionate about delivering family-centred interventions.
Children readily learn new skills when they are engaged in enjoyable activities, and all sessions at Fun to Talk Speech Pathology in Geelong aim to maximise engagement through play-based learning. Targets of intervention are worked on during enjoyable tasks that can be easily replicated at home, increasing the likelihood of skill transfer to everyday life. Given that the occupation of a child is to play, a play-based approach ensures that learning is meaningful, relevant and fun for all the family.
Assessment is conducted using 'gold standard', evidence-based measures, while results are interpreted to not simply tell you what your child cannot do, but to highlight and utilise their strengths in any subsequent intervention. This positive, strengths-based approach to therapy builds upon existing skills to help achieve your child's goals.
At Fun to Talk, we have undergone specialist training in the following evidence-based approaches to therapy:
